The Complete B2B Buyer’s Guide to Digital Scales: Types, Accuracy, and Sourcing From a Manufacturer
By Alice Xie · 29 October 2026
For importers, wholesalers, e-commerce sellers and brand owners, choosing a digital scale is rarely just "pick a model." Capacity, readability, platform material, units, certification — and, above all, who actually builds the unit — decide whether the product sells and whether it ships on time. This guide walks through the scale categories we manufacture, the specifications that genuinely matter, and how to run a factory-direct order from sample to container.
Why Source Digital Scales Factory-Direct
A trading company quotes you a price. A factory tells you what can be changed, what it costs and how long it takes — then builds it on its own line. Buying from the maker changes four things:
Capacity, readability and unit set are production decisions on our own platforms, not special orders placed with another supplier.
Your logo, colour, packaging and manual ride on existing tooling, so a private-label run does not start with a mould bill.
Order across kitchen, jewelry, pocket and more, and they move under one production plan and one shipping document set.
When a specification cannot be built on an existing platform we say so up front instead of quoting and stalling.
The Scale Categories We Build
Every category below is manufactured in our Dongguan facility rather than resourced from a third party — which is why the housing, platform material, units and carton can all be adjusted without changing supplier. Tap any category for the full model list and specifications.
Gram-accurate food scales for baking, portion control and nutrition labelling.
Palm-size 0.01g–0.1g units — the high-volume compact line for resale.
0.001g–0.01g readability for gems, precious metals and the carat trade.
Carat and gram dual-unit scales for jewellers and stone traders.
0.1g dosing scales with built-in timer for specialty coffee and brewing.
Flat-deck platforms from 10kg to 300kg for small animals, large breeds and livestock.
Compact travel and hanging scales for luggage and parcel weighing.
Spoon-format scales for kitchen dosing and supplement measuring.
Hook and strap scales up to 300kg for cargo, market and outdoor weighing.
Tempered-glass and body-analysis models for personal weighing.
Flat-platform parcel scales for postage and small-shipment pricing.
Readability vs Capacity — What the Numbers Mean
Two numbers define every scale, and confusing them is the most common sourcing mistake:
- Capacity — the maximum weight the platform can measure (e.g. 5kg, 50kg, 300kg).
- Readability (sometimes called "precision" or "d") — the smallest increment the display can show (e.g. 1g, 0.1g, 0.001g).
A 5kg scale that reads to 1g is right for a kitchen; a jewelry scale that reads to 0.001g is right for gold. You cannot have both a huge capacity and an ultra-fine readability in one low-cost unit — physics and price set the trade-off. The pairing below is what we build most:
| Application | Typical capacity | Typical readability |
|---|---|---|
| Kitchen & food | 3kg – 15kg | 0.1g – 1g |
| Pocket / portable | 100g – 2kg | 0.01g – 0.1g |
| Jewelry | 50g – 1kg | 0.001g – 0.01g |
| Carat | 50g – 100g | 0.001g (dual g / ct) |
| Coffee | 2kg – 3kg | 0.1g + timer |
| Pet / livestock | 10kg – 300kg | 1g – 50g |
| Luggage / hanging | 20kg – 300kg | 10g – 50g |
| Postal / parcel | 5kg – 50kg | 1g – 5g |
The Specification Sheet You Should Send Us
The fastest quotations come from a complete spec. Use this checklist so nothing has to be guessed:
| Field | What to decide | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Capacity & readability | e.g. 5kg / 1g | Sets the load-cell and platform |
| Units | g, oz, ct, lb, ml… | Affects firmware and printed scale |
| Platform material | Stainless steel / ABS / tempered glass | Food-contact, durability, cost |
| Power | Battery / USB / rechargeable | Market preference and shipping |
| Display | LCD / backlit / size | Readability in the use environment |
| Target market & certification | EU, US, AU… | Decides which documents we prepare |
| Packaging | Neutral / branded / gift box | Private-label vs white-label |
| Carton configuration | Qty per carton, pallet plan | Drives freight and shelf-ready packing |
| Estimated annual volume | Units / year | Unlocks better pricing and line time |
Private Label & Customisation
Most of our runs are private-label: your logo, colour, manual and packaging on a platform we already produce. Because the tooling already exists, a customised order does not start with a mould charge — the variable cost is printing, decals and carton tooling, not the product itself. For genuinely new housing or functions we will tell you honestly whether it fits an existing platform or needs new development, and what that adds to lead time.
From Sample to Container — The Order Flow
Send the specification sheet above; we confirm feasibility on existing platforms.
Price, MOQ, lead time and shipping options, returned in your required format.
A production-representative sample for your testing before commitment.
PO, artwork sign-off and deposit lock the production slot.
Built on our own five assembly lines with in-line checks.
Calibration, function test, and the market-matched paperwork you need for import.
Consolidated under one schedule and one document set, or mixed with other categories.
How to Vet a Scale Factory
Before committing volume, check the things that actually predict a smooth supply relationship:
- Audit status — our 1,500 m² Dongguan facility is audited by Intertek; ask for the matching report.
- Sample behaviour — a serious maker ships a production-representative sample, not a hand-picked showpiece.
- Reference buyers — importers and e-commerce sellers we already supply across multiple categories.
- Capacity honesty — realistic lead times and a clear statement of what cannot be built on existing platforms.
- Documentation — paperwork prepared for your destination market, shared on inquiry rather than claimed generically.
